Special Care Nursery
The birth of a baby is a special time, a time when dreams come true. Sometimes, though, infants may need additional medical attention due to low birth weight, premature birth or other medical reasons.
In our Level II Intensive Care or “Special Care” Nursery, babies receive advanced care and monitoring from a team of specially trained nurses and physicians. In addition to infants born in our hospital, we also care for those transferred from other facilities that offers convenience close to home for families as they await the day when baby can finally come home. Advanced Neonatal Practitioners are available within the hospital 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week for delivery room and nursery emergencies. And we offer telemedicine consultation through Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Parents and families are encouraged to spend time with and participate in baby’s care through ‘round the clock visitation. Should family members not be able to be present, we also offer cuddler services when appropriate to help babies regain their sense of well-being.
