Osteoporosis and Fracture
Many people are unaware of the link between fractures and osteoporosis. If you are over the age of 50 and are diagnosed with a fracture, there is a good chance that your fracture may be related to osteoporosis. An estimated 54 million Americans have osteoporosis or low bone mass, causing over 2.3 million fractures each year in older adults. Fortunately, there is a lot you can do to prevent fragility fractures. Some things that can help are a balanced diet, exercise, medications, adequate vitamin D supplementation and the team at Excela Health’s Osteoporosis Clinic.
At the Excela Health Osteoporosis Clinic, our multidisciplinary team can help prevent a fragility fracture or manage an existing fracture.
We evaluate each patient and determine care plans including referral to physical therapists, nutrition counseling, laboratory and radiologic testing at multiple locations. We provide patient education on bone health and medication options to treat osteoporosis; this is provided out of one primary location. Our staff will help guide you along the way and communicate information to you and your referring provider.
