Palliative Care

Palliative home care is a specialized home health program designed for patients with advancing diseases who are pursuing aggressive treatment.

Palliative home care follows the same regulations as home health care. The patient must be homebound and have a skilled need such as pain or symptom management, side effect monitoring for certain treatments, catheter care, and wound care, to name a few.

Unlike hospice, there are no time restrictions associated with palliative home care. Services can be received by patients at any time, at any stage of illness, whether it is terminal or not. Since there are no time limits on when you can receive palliative home care, it acts to fill the gap for patients who want and need comfort at any stage of any disease. In a palliative home care program, there is no expectation that life-prolonging therapies will be avoided.

Palliative home care may be right for you if you are experiencing pain, stress and other symptoms due to a serious illness such as cancer, cardiac disease, respiratory disease, kidney failure, Alzheimer’s, AIDS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multiple sclerosis, among others.
