Interventional Care at the Heart and Vascular Institute

To restore and renew your heart’s health, our team of caring interventional cardiologists perform a range of treatments and procedures close to home at the Heart, Lung & Vascular Institute interventional suites located on the Excela Westmoreland Hospital campus. As the centerpiece of Excela Health’s system-wide cardiac expertise, the interventional cardiac center houses our cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, along with a 64-slice CT scanner – a non-invasive means of viewing the heart to diagnose symptoms or potential problems. Even those with severe or other existing heart conditions can benefit from this technology that takes just seconds to perform with little or no image distortion. The center also houses a hybrid operating room which is a modern surgical suite that offers the surgical team increased flexibility during minimally invasive and open procedures. Here, patients and family members gather in one of 12 self-contained pre- and post-procedure bed areas with full cardiac monitoring. There’s a family/patient conference room too, for you and cardiac team members to discuss progress or next steps in a more relaxed, conversational manner.

Within the cath labs, we perform:

• Coronary stent deployment
• Thrombectomy
• Atherectomy
• Balloon angioplasty
• Intravascular ultrasound
• Acute angioplasty and stent for myocardial infarction

Excela is the first health system in Pennsylvania and only the fifth in the nation to receive this designation, which recognizes the commitment of clinicians and staff to quality assurance, peer review and use of evidence-based guidelines.
