Excela Health Nurses Honored as Cameos of Caring®

GREENSBURG, PA, December 6, 2018 …Excela Health celebrates a trio of nurses who have been recognized as 2018 Cameos of Caring^®recipients. Created by the University of Pittsburgh in 1999, this honor celebrates exceptional caregivers across several disciplines. Excela Health through its member hospitals has been a program participant for more than a dozen years

Lori Zajdel, BSN, RN, Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, represented the acute care setting. Amber L. Mauck, BSN, RN, Excela Health Home Care & Hospice, was selected from the ambulatory care setting, and Kathleen Rosatti, MSN, RN was honored with the Quality and Safety Award. All were feted on December 1 during the awards ceremony at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.

In a few short days, patients are hospitalized as a result of some cardiac event, Lori Zajdel, BSN, RN, can only meet their most immediate needs. But her desire across a 20-plus year career is to make a lasting impression and lifelong change in their health. Since earning her BSN from Waynesburg College in 1996, Zajdel has been committed to heart care. She began her career on a telemetry unit at United Health Center in Clarksburg, WV, before devoting two years to travel nursing with American Mobile Healthcare. From West Virginia to Hawaii and states in between, she continued to
address the needs of the monitored patient while advancing in her leadership skills.

She came to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in 2002 and advanced from
staff nurse to clinical coordinator of the Progressive Care Unit. In the past few months,
she has found a new niche in cardiovascular care, dividing her time between nuclear
cardiology testing and cardiac rehabilitation. “I have heard patients talk about how
scared they are of testing, so much so that they might not be able to get through it, and I
am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to reassure them that they can do it and
that learning the results will help them become healthier,” said Zajdel.

“It’s that same feeling I get in knowing that I can be the coach and the
cheerleader to help someone move past the hospital bed into rehab. I enjoy being able
to teach over a longer period of time and see the health improvement that can be
achieved.”

Amber L. Mauck, BSN, RN
Excela Health Home Care and Hospice

Although Amber Mauck, BSN, RN has been a nurse for less than five years,
she’s already experienced the gamut of emotions personally that allows her to empathize
with patients and families dealing with some of life’s most difficult decisions. Mauck has
known the joy of pregnancy and the pain of loss as a new mother. She has felt the comfort
of caregivers and the sorrow shared with grieving loved ones. She draws on these
memories to shape her nursing practice as a member of Excela Health Home Care, as
part of the Palliative and Hospice team.

A 2014 graduate of Westmoreland County Community College, Mauck earned
her BSN from the Greensburg campus of Carlow University. While working on her
degree, Mauck served as a staff nurse on a 22-bed medical/surgical unit at Excela
Health Latrobe Hospital. She joined the home care division in 2016.

Recognized by her peers and patients alike, she has received accolades for
promoting patient safety and achieving patient satisfaction. Her quiet demeanor and
respectful manner endear her to those in her care as well as to those who are
mentoring her in her nursing career.

Kathleen Rosatti, MSN, RN
Director of Medical Outcomes/Patient Safety/Infection Control

For 30 years, Kathleen Rosatti, MSN, RN, has devoted her career to providing
safe and quality care to patients. That personal commitment serves her well as she
mentors others and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve desired outcomes
as a nursing leader at Excela Health.

Kathleen graduated from Western Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 1989, and
was hired as a staff nurse at what was then Westmoreland Regional Hospital in
Greensburg. Even in her earliest days as a new nurse, she recognized the importance of
a safe environment for both patients and staff and served as her unit’s Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) educator.

Her demonstrated effectiveness in guiding others led to her advancement to the
role of clinical coordinator, and later nurse manager of a 30-bed medical/surgical unit at
the hospital which became part of Excela Health in 2004. In 2008, she became Director
of Infection Control, overseeing prevention, control, and surveillance activities for the
health system, and in 2010, Director of Risk Management. Following completion of her
BSN from the Greensburg campus of Carlow University in 2011, she was named
Director of Medical Outcomes/Patient Safety/Infection Control. In 2017, she received
her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from Waynesburg University.

Recognized by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association as a Rising Star in
Leadership earlier in her career, she was part of a multi-disciplinary team receiving a
Fine Award from the Jewish Healthcare Foundation in 2016, and later served as a
Patient Safety mentor to the foundation through its fellowship program. She is a
member of the Westmoreland County Health Care Emergency Management Task
Force, the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders, the Association for
Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology and the Three Rivers Association
for Infection Control and Epidemiology.
