By joining our Nurse Extern Scholarship Program, you will develop:
Clinical confidence

As a Nurse Extern, you will have the opportunity to shadow and be trained
by a Registered Nurse while gaining valuable experience within a variety
of practice settings.
Our Nurse Extern opportunities will be in the following areas:
Acute Medical/Surgical
Cardiac Telemetry
Step Down Units
Progressive Care Units
As a Nurse Extern, you will perform a variety of patient care tasks under
the delegation of a Registered Nurse and will also participate in the
Excela Nursing Professional Practice Model by being involved with unit-based
committees and improvement teams and other facets of nursing outside of
patient care. Enhanced development including:
Assisting with coordination and implementation of the plan of care
Performing ostomy care, dressing changes, tube feedings, enemas and bladder
catheterization
Taking and recording patient's vital signs, including pulse oximetry, pain
level screen and bedside glucometer testing
Performing 12-lead electrocardiograms
Documenting patient input/output
In this 16-week, paid externship position you will work a minimum of 32
hours per month in conjunction with a Registered Nurse preceptor, clinical
educator, Nursing Supervisor, or Clinical Director
Upon completion of the program, you will receive a scholarship in the form
of tuition reimbursement to be applied to the cost of tuition and fees
for the school year.
