Nurse Extern Scholarship Program at Excela Health
Are you a Nursing Student who is looking for an amazing opportunity to work with nurses beyond your normal clinical experiences? If you are a rising senior (graduating May 2024) and would like to experience nursing as an extern in a clinical setting while enjoying a community feel, then Excela Health is for you! By joining our Nurse Extern Scholarship Program, you will develop:

As a Nurse Extern, you will have the opportunity to shadow and be trained by a Registered Nurse while gaining valuable experience within a variety of practice settings.
Our Nurse Extern opportunities will be in the following areas:
- Acute Medical/Surgical
- Cardiac Telemetry
- Step Down Units
- Progressive Care Units
As a Nurse Extern, you will perform a variety of patient care tasks under the delegation of a Registered Nurse and will also participate in the Excela Nursing Professional Practice Model by being involved with unit-based committees and improvement teams and other facets of nursing outside of patient care. Enhanced development including:
- Assisting with coordination and implementation of the plan of care
- Performing ostomy care, dressing changes, tube feedings, enemas and bladder catheterization
- Taking and recording patient's vital signs, including pulse oximetry, pain level screen and bedside glucometer testing
- Performing 12-lead electrocardiograms
- Documenting patient input/output
In this 16-week, paid externship position you will work a minimum of 32 hours per month in conjunction with a Registered Nurse preceptor, clinical educator, Nursing Supervisor, or Clinical Director
Upon completion of the program, you will receive a scholarship in the form of tuition reimbursement to be applied to the cost of tuition and fees for the school year.
